14th HKBDI Cup Ballroom Dance Championships and 1st HKBDI Ranking Event 2026
The 14th HKBDI Cup Ballroom Dance Championships and the 1st HKBDI Ranking Event 2026 were held on 29 March at the Riverside Ballroom, Regal Riverside Hotel, Shatin.
This year’s event recorded strong participation, with 138 Solo dancers, 3 Synchronized Dancing teams, and 53 couples. Competitions began at 11:00 AM. Although the scrutineering system experienced a brief delay at the start, the issue was quickly resolved, and all competition rounds, award ceremonies, and proceedings thereafter ran smoothly. The entire event concluded successfully.
The organizing committee expressed sincere gratitude to the judges and competitors from China, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, the United States, Russia, and Hong Kong, whose support and professionalism helped create a vibrant and memorable championship.
Unforgettable moments of the day included:
- Vice President Gertrude Ko served as a judge in Taiwan on 28 March and returned to Hong Kong early on 29 March to join the organizing team.
- The number of Solo dancers reached 138, the highest in recent years.
- Mainland Chinese dancers registered for the Open Professional Latin and Open Professional Standard events were unable to attend due to High Speed Rail service cancellations, resulting in the cancellation of their hotel bookings.
- Both couples in the Open Professional Latin event were new partnerships, choosing HKBDI as the stage for their first competition together.
- The Champion trophies for Open Professional Latin and Open Professional Standard were mistakenly switched during the award ceremony. Fortunately, the Professional Latin Champions from Malaysia remained in Hong Kong for two more days, allowing the correct trophy to be returned to them before they departed.
The evening presentation ceremony included:
- Letters of Appreciation to Judges
- 2025 HKBDI All-Year-Round Juvenile & Junior Champion / 2nd Place / 3rd Place
- 2025 HKBDI All-Year-Round Adult Champion
- Presentation of the ISTD Latin Licentiate Certificate to Daniel Falkenberg (Denmark)
Immediately after the Open Professional Latin Final, HKBDI interviewed the Champions Veroy Ng & Khrystyna Dubinina. The interview video has been uploaded to HKBDI’s YouTube, Rednote, and WeChat Video platforms.
